The Air Quality Flag Program is an initiative sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to inform community and educational organizations about air pollution. The program developed a series of five color-coded flags that correspond to the U.S. EPA’s Air Quality Index (AQI):
Participating organizations are responsible for displaying their flags in accordance with the daily reported AQI for their area. The AQI typically tracks the top five pollutants, including ground-level ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. For this ongoing series, the artist has registered every exhibition site as a participant in the EPA Air Quality Flag Program.
